Day's End by MountainInspirations Day's End by MountainInspirations
Day's End. Pastel on 500grit sandpaper, 11 x 14. Completed 2/ 10/11. This was a project for class, had to combine the elements of two different photos. The tree was actually a willow, but the long branches seemed to dissect the picture and it wasn't pleasing to the eye. So I gave it a haircut and here it is.

the colors are way more vivid that show here. Damned scanner! And nothing I could do in photoshop reproduced the colors the way it really looks so I left it alone.

quite a nice, dreamlike scene you've captured. the flatness of the colours make everything blend in, as well as the contrasting. Good work :)

 Fantastic!
I think shorter branches do look better than long ones might have; good call. So what kind of pastel is this? Chalk or oil [or a new kind? It looks so much like paint.

they're chalk pastels. i don't like the oils, I feel the way these blend suits me better. And I had a submission denied by the pastels group cause the insisted it was oils... hehehe

it's like working on velvet once you get the first layers down. i bought a variety pack of different grits, and i like this one the best. it's not the regular stuff from the hardware store, its acid free from the art supply. just fyi
